Hey guys, seems like
Transparent .MOV files don’t play in Framer.
When I try to convert it to mp4 using Adobe Media Encoder it makes background solid :/ Tried to follow instructions over here http://framer.com/learn/import/after-effects/ doesn’t seem to work. :( Are transparent .mov not possible anymore?

Have the same problem. Documentation still recommends Animation codec, but it doesn't work. Any other ways to use RGB + Alpha videos in FramerJS? The blend mode trick is a bit of a hack ;)

Anyone have luck with this? or luck using a png sequence maybe? This kind of issue brings up wonderful memories of using FLV's....

I am working on the same problem. I read that mp4's do not support transparent backgrounds ( and it seems like Framer only supports mp4's for videos?)

The mix-blend-mode hack doesn't really get it for me. I actually need a way to present pre-rendered animations with an alpha channel. Can someone please point out what the exact export settings should be in After Effects? Also, do these movies need to be .mov or .mp4?

Did anyone figure this out?

Did you select 'Animation' or 'proRes4444' as a codec?

Dmitry Sholkov

Selected 'Animation' as a codec.

Marc Krenn

I think you're right, hm :(

The two alpha videos in this file here once worked:

Temporary workaround: Render video with black background and use 'mixBlendMode: "screen" to mask it out.

Wow! Thanks Marc. I will try it!

Benjamin I'm pretty sure we documented the best setting somewhere right?

Marc Krenn

it's in the OP, Koen ;)

Marc Krenn

but those videos with alpha channel are no longer working

Koen Bok

Grmbl sorry :-)

Koen Bok

Ok hmmm Benjamin any ideas?

Hey, I'm having the same issue. I create a video with an alpha channel on After Effects and it plays as a gray video on Framer. When I use Adobe Media Encoder to change it to MP4 it's no longer transparent.

Edward Sanchez

For my purposes I managed to solve it by using the multiply blend mode. But that only works if you don't have any white pixels that you want opaque.
