Hey everyone, today we're changing the way we deal with versions and licenses, to make the value of a license more clear, and to ship faster.

For this update, you will have to re-download the latest version from http://framer.com (auto update won't work, sorry). If you are a current customer, you will receive a free new license per email in the next 24 hours.

For more info, see our full blog post:

This update also fixes a set of El Capitan issues that people ran into.

For those wondering; auto update doesn't work because we changed the app identifier to com.motif.framer. It will from now on.

Koen Bok

Also, if you happen to have downloaded Framer Studio in the last 24 hours, you might need to refresh your browser (for cache) to get the right download link. The app version should be v42.

Our company's license is registered to our CTO's mail address. Is there any way to change it (to mine)?

Koen Bok

Marc you can add your own email now on activation.

Says my updates expire on Oct 12th, 2016. Is it $99/yr now?

John Anthony Evans

This is a really good thing, and I appreciate that we get a full year as part of the original price.

This may be a bad biz move guys, especially with Comet on the horizon that already comes with a subscription most of us are already paying for. If you're trying to increase market share before Adobe heavily disrupts this space, may want to reconsider since you're (even though great) still relatively new offering. Just my 2¢.

Robert Haverly

Well, at least Principle just got themselves a whole new selling point ;)

Koen Bok

So we tried really hard to make clear that this is _not_ a subscription, which might have failed :-)

With a subscription, your service stops working alltogether when you quit paying.

With our model, you pay 99 for the current app + a year worth of updates. Whatever the last one is at that point, you can keep using it forever.

This works exactly the same as the traditional software licenses (like we had before, or Sketch) that deliver a major update each year. But it's better because we guarantee you updates for a year, and you won't feel screwed if you bought a license just 3 months before a major update.

Koen Bok

Also, did I mention, _every current customer got a free new license_? :-) I don't think Adobe will steal that from us.

Bug fixes are not considered as updates, are they?

Sergey Voronov

link in email wasnt clickable, so i have just entered usual email and registration code from previous emails, whether the updates will be available still?

Aneesh Bhoopathy

I think this is a great licensing structure

Jongwoo Lee

Is there any other benefits other than updates?

Arturo Goicochea

This system is awesome! Clear, straightforward and a great way to set the record straight with users: "You will have to pay next year, we earn our living from this"

Baisampayan Saha

Even after upgrading to the new licence system and a new framer version, i m facing crashes. Please find a solution for this.

Koen Bok

Baisampayan Saha could you please send me the crash log at [email protected]? We only know about one crash right now if you exit fullscreen.

Baisampayan Saha

Koen Bok I have already sent you a crash log. It is happening when I am closing some a framer window. If I open framer again, instead of opening a new window, it opens the last window which I had closed and due to which it crashed.

Koen Bok

Thanks, we're investigating this!
