Is it possible to use states to change an object's superLayer?

You can also set a super layer state, but states are tied to layers.

Koen Bok Great -- is the syntax different when defining the superlayer in a state? I haven't been able to get something like "open: {superLayer: null}" to work.

Aha, I misunderstood you. That is not possible because states manage just visual properties for now. You can listen to StateDidChange.
