Another question that might seem obvious, but I can't find any answers to elsewhere:

How do I expand the layers in the layer hierarchy? the only way I have found to have them expand is to click on some piece in the design preview and the layers will expand to reveal that item in the list. However, I can't figure out how to just select a layer from the list and expand it there. Any help would be greatly appreciated

Also, is there a way to "frame up" the composition in the design window? say if I scroll away from the artboard and can't find it? For example in maya you can hit "F" key and it will frame everything in he world or whatever you have selected within your view. I need something like that

You can expand a collapsed artboard by double clicking its layer panel icon. Since normal layers can't be collapsed they can also not be expanded. Use Cmd+1 to zoom to the extends of your design.

ok the cmd+1 worked great. but I'm not sure I get how to expand and collapse layers in the hierarchy - I have one of the tutorial examples open and it has 2 "screens", A and B. I expanded them by clicking on the design, but I can't contract them back again. I'm not sure what you mean by "layer panel icon" is that the little greyed out box thing to the left of the name in the canvas list?

Jonas Treub

You can collapse artboards by clicking on the canvas.

Matt Asanuma

ok I figured out I can collapse the canvas list by clicking in empty space on the canvas

Matt Asanuma

thanks :). Is that the only way?

Jonas Treub

Or by pressing Escape.

Also is there any way to collapse the children within the layers? In this example I'm in, there are two layers I'm assuming they're called titled "screenA" and "screenB"... when I click on those the entire hierarchy expands. is there no way to just expand like one or two children within the hierarchy instead of the entire list of nested children?

Matt Asanuma

ah escape works well for backing out too thanks :)

Jonas Treub

We are thinking about adding layer collapsing.

Matt Asanuma

ah are you an engineer on framer? thank you for your help by the way

I'm coming from the video game industry trying to get into UX/UI, so I'm used to adobe products like photoshop, after effects, illustrator, premiere, etc.. and I'm used to maya and other 3d packages. plus I'm used to PCs not Macs.. so I'm just jumping into a foreign environment here :p

Jonas Treub

Cool! Yeah. I'm one of the product engineers.

Matt Asanuma

thank you!

Yeah there isn’t really the concept of groups. You can group layers inside another layer. So I’m not sure if collapsing makes sense or not yet. The only time I’ve really wanted to collapse stuff is when I build a grid on top of my layers.
