How framer seamlessly connect with developers? Take a iOS app as an example, can developer take framer code for use? Or it's only a visual interaction reference? Looking forward to all your opinions.

Hey everyone, really enjoying learning Framer! I'm using Chris Camargo's module to create some multi-page flows [see: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZA9TKn_bIVY]. One small problem I'm having is that when I make any changes to button parameters, the prototype view refreshes to the beginning and I have to navigate back to the page to see the changes. This makes positioning a button take much longer. Any way to avoid this? My prototype so far: http://share.framerjs.com/5xl0naudv1bu/

Hey guys, I've got a weird one here: I have 2 prototypes that are practically the same, except one runs on an iPhone frame (and resolution) (This one: http://share.framerjs.com/256wpqgbtn8k/ ) and the other one runs on a Samsung Note 4 resolution (this one: http://share.framerjs.com/l1ydb3k41nyi/ ) It could be my mac struggles with it, but still want to make sure.

Any tips or references on how to animate something from it's center point? For example I want to take a rectangle centered on screen and animate it to a circle from the center point not the upper x coordinate. In my attempts the rectangle animates to a circle but the rectangle right edge animates in towards the upper left x coordinate. Hope this makes sense.

Hey all! Today we’re launching a significant update to our frontpage. You’ll find three completely new sections. The first highlights all that you can build in Framer, from adaptive prototypes to animations in 3D. Next, we visualized the entire design workflow, from importing to sharing. The final section focuses on how Framer helps you learn to code. We’re super excited to launch these, and would love to hear your thoughts! :-) framerjs.com/#creative-features

Here's a little project I've been working on for instant match interstitials. You can't swipe yet but you can tap the like/heart button to trigger the event. You can also view the profile from the int. and send a [fake] message. I know the code is not the cleanest or most efficient. Any feedback would be great! Thanks!

Wondering if I'm missing something… or is a feature request. Could it be possible to select something, then search documentation (h1, h2 text in documentation) for this selected text? For example 'curve' should produce open the Documentation window at Documentation>Animation>Curves Maybe-crazy request: 'Search for usage examples' function. 1. Selecting some text 2. Search across all the examples from framerjs.com and list 5 examples. of lines (Each from different project) that contain this text. Click to open that project.

Help please: I'm trying to animate a string of text to fade smoothly in and out in an infinite loop. Originally, I defined multiple states then used .states.next to have it cycle through all of them, but it's not working? However, if I put in a specific state as an argument e.g., swipe1.states.next("second"), it works. Open to any sort of change. Hoping someone could help me fix my errors or point me to a better solution. I'd really appreciate it :)

Hi guys, I'm not the greatest at Javascript (understatement), and I'm trying to figure out how to loop through an existing layer group, and re-create the individual groups, up to a certain point. The code below shows how to create new layers which run vertically down a newsfeed: # Create and style the cards within a for-loop for i in [0...10] layer = new Layer backgroundColor: "#fff", width: scroll.width - 48, height: 400 x: 24, y: (400 + 32) * i borderRadius: 6, superLayer: scroll.content layer.style.boxShadow = "0 1px 6px rgba(0,0,0,0.2)" But I'm looking at removing the styling code and simply re-insert an existing layer group which has been imported from Sketch. Any ideas? Thanks!

Hello! I recently scored two invites from Dribbble. If you are interested in one you can post or send me a cool FramerJS prototype. For those less experienced with FramerJS, or if you want to increase your chances of getting an invite, send me a shot of what you think a modern or futuristic operating system should look like. Obviously the more intention, meaning and complexity behind your shot or prototype the higher your chances are of getting an invite. You can find my alternative contact information on the Dribbble shot below. Dribbble: https://goo.gl/HX6T1t

Hi guys, I'm new to FramerJS and I had a question. Is there a way to keep different parts of my code in different files? For example, I am prototyping an entire app, and there are different views and subviews. Currently, all of the code is in one file, but to be a bit more organized I thought that maybe there was a way to handle this. Thanks!

Hey! Possibly stupid question coming up, but here goes. I'm using Framer Studio to prototype a TV UI and using Makey Makey to build the input source, so I'm looking to set the canvas of my prototype to 1920x1080. What I really like when I use the preset sizes is that the content of preview pane scales when I can't fit the native resolution on the screen that I use. How do I get the benefits of content scaling in the preview pane ("Zoom: Fit"), and at the same time have the possibility to set the canvas size to 1920x1080? Once again, sorry if I'm going about this the wrong way and missing something obvious, but I'd really enjoy a "Custom size" option under "Viewer"

Hi guys, When creating a new layer, and a series of child layers associated to the main parent layer (for examples, individual slides within a slider), is there a way to share properties between the layers in order to keep it DRY? I've just recently spent this last weekend taking a code academy course to be able to use Framer, so this might be a silly question. Forgive me if that's the case! Here's the code: sliderView = new Layer y: 131 width: Screen.width height: 501 backgroundColor:"none" sliderContent = new Layer width: sliderView.width height: sliderView.height backgroundColor:"none" slide1 = new Layer image: "imported/ohlala--framerjs/images/Layer-Bitmap-E1F28C29-74F9-4667-B1FB-83F835F3109F.png" width: sliderView.width height: sliderView.height

Hello, framers I am trying to enable page navigation by horizontal swipe on a panel on top of the screen (see prototype). It works on with mouse (PC) but not with device (touch). Must be the clientX property I am using not recognized by the device. Any idea how to make this happen? I tried the Jordan Dobson's pointer modules to get the touch positions but I just need the value for either x or y. Would be great if there is a way to get touch position or recognize horizontal swipes. Any help will be appreciated.

Is it possible to have a module included by default when creating a new file? I have a module BrandColours.coffee that contains all the hex codes for th colours in simply named variables (e.g brandColours.redDark, brandColours.blueMedium, etc.) and I reference it every prototype I make. It would be great if I didn't have to copy it every time I started a new file.

I've just tried out using 'draggable.directionLock' for the first time and to be honest, it was a bit of a letdown, or let me put it another way: It doesn't behave like I've expected it to: * For some reason, the draggable layer doesn't move within it's threshold boundaries, which is kinda weird. Does anyone actually want/need that behavior? * Once you've dragged the layer outside of the threshold, the direction stays locked, even if you're dragging it back into the threshold-zone. While this may be useful in some cases, I'd assume 95% of the time you'd lock the direction manually via 'draggable.*direction* = false'. Especially since a ... * Change of direction is only possible if you let go and re-click/tap the draggable layer. ### Gif: The top layer shows what I expected from 'draggable.directionLock*Threshold' (I know, my straight dragging is a bit unfortunate - but believe me, once it lefts the 'zone' it is actually direction-locked :) ) ### What do you guys think?

Hi guys, I hope its ok to ask my question here. Iam using Framer with Intellij IDEA. I want create own modules. For testing purpose I created a modules folder next to the framer directory. I needed an accordion, so I started playing with Josh Puckett's recent example. I wanted some other extra's it didn't have: hover states, and closing all the open accordion pieces if I open another one. I messed with it until it got close enough for my needs. This also makes use of the new color animation features to help indicate focus. I thought it might be useful for other folks.

I'm working on a something which has a scroll menu with items within it that are clickable. Problem is I can't find a way that allows users to scroll without firing a click event in one of the sublayers. Any ideas? I was playing with a simple iOS toggle and the new color class. It takes away quite a bit of the complexity of prototyping this control (which is super detailed and a nice exercise to get right). Thanks Andrew for the initial toggle prototype, you shared a while ago. Here are the .framer files → http://share.framerjs.com/70nki138zrt9/ PS: The file turned out a bit more dynamic then I intended it to be. You can set the toggleSize (#3) and everything grows / shrinks along nicely.

Is there a way to have a layer with a specific default animation curve? Framer.Defaults.Animation = curve: "spring(400,30,10)" allows you make a global animation default, but is there a way to have it so that whenever a specific layer animates, it animates to a designated curve, without effecting the default animation curve of all other layers. For example, I have 5 unique layers, but whenever "layer 3" animates, without me having to specify each time, it animates to a default I assigned just to it.

You'll see in this example, I have a scroll component in a page component. Once you reach the end of the scroll container, it snaps to the next page using the snapToPage function. I actually don't want it to snap all of a sudden, I want the user to be able to drag the current page upwards and see the next page appear before the 'snap' happens. Any ideas? Also let me know if this doesn't make sense and I can try to explain it better.

Hey all, Anyone got any tips on how layering works? I have a bunch of files that are within the iPhone Viewer Template (see highlighted), and a bunch that are outside and above it. The general brignToFront etc... functions I get, but i don't know why some things are within the Template and others outside. Any pointers?

Hey guys I'm looking for some help on building a psudo particle system in framer that can support continuous randomized motion for each particle generated (say it's just a few circles). Any ideas on how to get subtle movement for each circle that feels organic in the sense that we are not just looping the same animation over and over? I want it to feel like a living background where particles never repeat the same motion patterns. Any ideas?

Hey guys, I'm very new to Framer JS and I'm desperately trying to place a scrollable layer (using scrollComponent.wrap) behind other layers, but it remains on top no matter what. Once created the ScrollComponent is placed on top of the other layers and when I try to apply different z-indexes with the .z property it doesn't work. Can someone help me with this?

non-linear Utils.modulate() update Dec. 14th '15: * I'm now using 'switch-case' instead of 'if-else' * implemented a proper fallback to "linear" * fixed 'easeOutCubic' and 'easeInSine' * added easeBack, easeElastic (except easeInOutElastic) and easeBounce. There are now 29/30 different curves available. * Example file got a makeover update Dec. 15th '15: * fixed bug reported by Joshua (would love to have a verification!) * example-project got another big makeover - formatting by the great Jordan Robert Dobson (thanks!) - slider now animates onTouch - temporary sliderComponent bugfix new gifv: http://gph.is/1NYwWyw infos & code @ git: https://github.com/marckrenn/framer-nonlinearModulate (new repo!) live demo / example: https://tr.im/nlModulate ### #framercode #modulate #Utilsmodulate #curve #nonlinear #non-linear

You can't manipulate text imported from Sketch so I started to dig around for solutions. Layer.html looks like the only option. I wanted to set up a CSS file (so I could "Copy CSS Attributes" from Sketch), but now I'm not sure how to import the CSS. Looking through this group I saw Utils.insertCSS but there are no recent mentions of it and nothing in the docs.

Hi All, I am starting with framerjs... getting familiar with everything and trying to understand the best practice. In the example I am sharing I am trying the change the color of imported shapes (the icons) on a click event. I have few questions: 1. Can I change the color of an imported shape? 2. How I can pass a LayerID through a function in order to manipulate it? 3. On this case I was starting to create a function to change layer.visible (true/false) between gray and red icons, having red as the current/active one. 4. Point 3 is the right way to do this? or I should create Layer States? http://share.framerjs.com/3lqmujy0x5p9/ Thank you very much in advance!!! J.

Hey everyone! Simple question that I haven't been able to find an answer to easily -- How could I check the state of a layer? I want to do something like this: for modal in modal_List ___modal.states.add ______on: { opacity: 1 } ______off: { opacity: 0 } somebutton.on Events.Click, -> ___for modal in modal_list ______if modal [is "on"] __________modal.states.switch("off") ______else __________modal.states.switch("on") Basically I want to be able to toggle the state of a layer by clicking a button somewhere. Thanks in advance for your help!

Message Thread in Code DEMO: http://jrdn.io/0f3p0f3J3t3t Here's an example I worked up with Aaron Brako last night at the Seattle FramerJS Meetup 07. I built this with him to demo how to quickly build up a email message thread UI without using Sketch. It's just the barebones but it's meant to focus on using a data set to build up layers using a function so you can build things efficiently.

Multi Pointer Device Fix Example: http://jrdn.io/0M3x0j1c3n0X If you're running prototypes on windows or sharing to users on a windows device with Mouse + Touch support you'll likely run into issues with the mouse not working. Here's a quick script to add at the top of your prototypes so that you can enable mouse support and disable touch. It might make sense in the future to offer an modal message to let the user decide which to use until Framer Supports both event types concurrently. But this works for now. Thanks to Weston for assisting on this script with me. :D

Are there known issues with VideoLayers, particularly when mirroring on mobile (via Frames or Frameless)? 1) Volume control doesn't seem to work. video.player.volume = 0 mutes in the preview window but not on device. 2) Videos inside of a PageComponent don't seem to load reliably on device either. Let me know if I can provide more detail.

Heya everyone! So against better judgement, I went ahead and tried to build a web application with Framer for a class project. If you're a Steam/PC-Gaming enthusiast, I hope you enjoy this little proof-of-concept for a Library-Curating Interface (something similar to Steam Queue). Framer runs things on the front-end and communicates with a ParseJS DB that a teammate helped put together. You can look into the Parse API we built if you're curious via the Apiary linked in the GitHub. That Parse back-end then connects to the public Steam Web-API that passes along pretty much all Steam user and game data - from profile names to game tags to games in your library. The final product ended up not having all the features we wanted (multiple Criteria selection, multiple follow-up Questions, and a LOT more polish) but we were happy with how it came out. I also cringe at how there's *no* Modules used in this project, but it was a hectic semester so this project turned out pretty hack-y. For those out there who are trying to get Parse working with your Framer Project and have any questions, feel free to reach out and I'll be more than happy to try and help! Any feedback is always appreciated! Thanks :D

Doubt: Sketch and Framer I have moved ahead with building screens in the default resolution that is provided in Sketch - i.e. - with a width of 360 for MaterialDesign>>MobilePortrait. Now I have realized that the phone I would be doing the mirroring on in FramerStudio is a screen with a width just double - that is - 720px. Problem: While mirroring with FramerStudio, the actual resolution of the assets is maintained on the phone screen, so they don't occupy all the screen space on the phone. How to proceed? planA: either reiterate all the screens, making new assets for a screen width of 720, then use this sketch file to import assets in FramerStudio and proceed accordingly. planB: Investigate whether there is some provision in FramerStudio to make this expansion of assets to occupy entire screen area. planC: continue working in w = 360px sketch file. But then export the assets as 2X pngs, so the width would match up, as 360*2 = 720. Catch: LayerImport wouldn't work here because 1) there might not be a way to cause the import to blow up the assets to adapt to a different screen size and 2) the plan is to string up all the assets separately from code itself, not via import because of this: https://www.facebook.com/groups/framerjs/permalink/738451186281955/

Is there a name for the stage / root / base layer? I come from a Flash background, so I'm used to having a stage / root to build from but I didn't see anything like that in Framer. For example, if I wanted to move a nested layer to the root I can't put "foo.superLayer = root" I have to use "foo.superLayer = null" (what layer is null?). I ask because I wanted to add a touchMove listener to the Stage to get around some weirdness I'm getting with it elsewhere, but realized I had no language to describe <Window {}>.

Hi group, i have a problem with position dynamic layers. When i set 'auto' width of layer by using .style properties, and then try to get a width of this layer which is unknown until it gets a text from parse in html propertie, it is always returning default value of '100'. I am trying to do something like: storyMetaInfoCategory.html = result.attributes.articleCategory storyMetaInfoCategory.style.width = 'auto' storyMetaInfoTopic.x = storyMetaInfoCategory.width + 20 In this case storyMetaInfoCategory layer is covering all the long text, but in inspector it shows a width of 100. What i am missing ?

I enjoy framer a lot, because it helps me to understand developers and their point of view. Not just that, I am learning, slowly yet steadily some programming skills. Thank you for that, Framer. Now, I came to the point, in which I am ok with basics in CoffeeScript and I would like to stretch my coding skills. Specifically, to understand and to be able to use concept of closures. I am not asking for explanation here, rather show me a UI/interaction/animation exercise, which could be elegantly solved by closures in Framer. Thanks in advance :)

We just launched Framer Studio V46 with enhanced color control. This release gives you more precise control over how color behaves in your prototypes. You can easily animate between two colors, pick a color model or mix colors based on specific interactions. Combined with the flexibility of code, these features unlock a lot of new possibilities. More details and prototypes on the blog → http://blog.framerjs.com/posts/enhanced-color-control.html

Hi FramerJS, How do I import one single art board from a multiple-art-board sketch file? Currently, I imported my sketch file and all art boards were displayed. To solve this problem, I had no choice but to divide that sketch file into multiple single-art-board files. This is such a pain when I have over 10 art boards and need to prototype every single one of them. Thank you very much.

Apologize for bombarding your facebook group with more than one questions a day. But I have been trying to interate through subLayers using a loop: for child in layer.subLayers child.states.animationOptions = delay: (child.index + 1)/50 However, the problem is that the loop counts in reverse! Meaning the last layer has index of 0 and this is really messing up my animation. I tried looking for a sketch plugin that reordered all my layers in reverse but failed. I hope there is a way to do that without reordering manually. Thank you very much!

I have a draggable layer that should either snap to y = 400 or y = 0. It should animate to one of those two depending on how much the user has dragged. For example: layer.on Events.DragEnd, -> if layer.y < 300 layer.y = 0 else layer.y = 400 I want dragged amount to determine the final position. The problem I'm having is that the overdrag is resetting the layer and that is overriding layer.y that I want to set. Is there a way to pass the "final destination" to the draggable animation?

Hi everyone, I'm relatively new to the group, have been trying various page-based / layer-based prototyping tools such as Flinto, Principle ... and now decided to switch to the code-based Framer as I was awed by its near-limitless capabilities of such a prototyping tool. Hi guys. I have one doubt about import. As you see in the example below I have a nav bar with multiple slab. The main issue is that this nav bar goes beyond the limits of the screen and when importing to Framer... well, it crops it. How can I import this nav bar to make it completely scrollable? And there is another issue... The slabs of the same design are supposed to be tappable and when you tap on one of those the content below snaps to a specific page (I solved that part with "snapToPage"). It works but just for the first slab. In the other cases I get this message: "Error: This layer is not in the scroll component content". Any idea? Thanks

Hey guys, I was just wondering: how long does it normally take for the Framer folks to respond to an email? :)

I'm trying to build an animation for rows similar to what Apple Mail on iOS does -- when you swipe a row, it should snap to the hidden options after the swipe reaches a specific parameter, prevent the row from being swiped in an opposite direction that it doesn't support, and snap back into its original spot when something happens. I've been playing around with the `draggable` property but my constraints aren't working the way I'd like them to, and I don't seem to be able to set the row's x property in a proper manner. Does anyone have an example of how this is done?

How can I pass values from one event to another without using global variables? ie. TouchStart to TouchEnd

I’d like to use my LG G3 (Resolution: 1440x2560px) for Framer prototypes and presentations. So far I have managed to import my Sketch file (see screenshot) and preview the Framer project on my phone… it looks fine on my phone. Since there’s no LG G3 Viewer in Framer Studio I am not able to display my project correctly in the Framer Studio Viewer (see my other screenshot). Is there a way to preview my project correctly on both my phone AND Framer Studio Viewer/Presentation Mode?

Not sure if this is the right forum to ask but here it goes. I'm interested in building a mobile website that uses transitions of a similar vein to the google search results (see video). I want to be able to transition between a list and detail view by animating certain elements before and after transition. I also want to preserve the state of Safari Chrome between screens (if the user scrolls down the chrome is minified and it should remain minified when the user navigates to detail view). I know it's something i could prototype with framer but I want to implement it on a website that uses body scroll. Would you have any recommendations as to how this should be approached? Thanks a bunch.

Hi everyone, I'm trying to create a function that restarts my Framer demo when clicked. Right now every screen is its own separate function, wrapped in its own module. The problem is, for some reason, re-visiting any of these functions (after the demo has naturally gone through its steps) causes the Javascript interpreter to throw an error that it's not a function and cannot be invoked. When I go to check on the `typeof (function)`, during this step I'm told it's an empty object. Running this exact same check at an earlier point in my prototype causes it to log as a function rather than an empty object. What am I doing wrong here?
